Location:

Stanshaw TH is about 20 miles off Hwy. 96 (Klamath River Hwy.), between Happy Camp and Orleans.

Directions to Stanshaw Trailhead, heading South on Hwy. 96 from Happy Camp direction:

Follow Hwy. 96 along the Klamath River and past Dillon Campground. At the turnoff to the TiBar Work Station (watch for sign), take FS road 14N01. Follow signs to look-out for awhile, and make sure that you stay on FS road 14N01 for quite a ways (well over 10 miles). Just before the Ten Bear Trailhead the road makes a sharp turn to the left (don't take the dirt road going straight ahead) and the road turns into FS road 15N17. Stay on 15N17 going past Ten Bear TH and on a couple more miles to Stanshaw Trailhead. There are a lot of roads turning off this road, so watch the FS road # signs, stay alert and have your map handy.

Directions to Stanshaw Trailhead, heading North on Hwy. 96 from Orleans direction:

Just after crossing the big bridge, over the Klamath River, at the North end of Orleans take FS road 15N17 and follow it all the way in to Stanshaw Trailhead. You will pass the turnoffs to Let-er Buck TH and to Haypress TH on the way. There are numerous roads turning off this road on the way in, There are a lot of roads turning off this road, so watch the FS road # signs, stay alert and have your map handy.

Road Conditions:

There are two roads into this trailhead and each is about 20 miles off the main road. Paved part of the way and dirt road part of the way. Usually in good condition.

Stanshaw TH is usually open by early June.

Trail Head Ammenities:

There is room to turn around large horse trailers
This is a fairly heavily used Trail Head/Camp Ground but the chances are good of finding an open corral and camp site here, except during hunting season, expecially Elk hunting season.
There is water at the corrals.
Hitching rails.
Loading ramp.
There is a nice out-house.
No fees to camp or use corrals.
There is one trail heading out of this trail-head.

Comments:

This is a very nice trailhead, and quite a few people set up their camp right out of here.

Trails out of Stanshaw TH:

There is only one trail out of this trail-head, but it meets up with other trails within a short ways.
